LYNX is a message level model for analyzing and predicting how various JTIDS messaging nodes will interact, the impact of interoperability and non-compliance issues. As an integrated part of the NSS toolkit LYNX takes into account the order of battle, flow of forces and the detection capabilities of participating units. Messages from each unit are distributed to the other participating units in a manner that reflects the transport medium available, for instance, some units within line of sight of a primary track producer may receive track updates via RF Link-16 where as other participating units may rely on SATCOM TDL J connections. Constraints are applied according to the capabilities modeled and the performance of various architectures can be assessed.

Integrated into LYNX is the functionality of another segment of the NSS Tool kit, TIGER™, which allows a graphical representation of the force laydown and the detection capabilities as a function of time to be developed and reviewed. TIGER’s ability to generate detections from each of the assets modeled, including space, air, surface and subsurface platforms, loads the LYNX model with data representing what took place during the scenario, which is taken and disseminated according to the TDL architecture and capabilities modeled after the various TDL constraints are applied. After the entire scenario is processed, LYNX makes use of TIGER’s versatile playback feature.  In playback mode, the view is highly customizable, allowing LYNX to display the tracks and the situational awareness for any of the platforms in the scenario.
