In two separate segments, Colleen Keller is in the CNN studio with Kate Bolduan to show using the CNN interactive floor map how the MH370 search assets are being coordinated by Australia. She talks about how searchers use probability of success metrics to determine when to reduce search efforts based on diminishing returns. In the second segment, Colleen answers questions about why the search areas have shifted over time. Given the large 100,000 square mile air search area, she explains that the area must be cut down significantly before the more-localized underwater towed pinger locator (TPL) and unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) cameras can be used productively. Finally, Colleen describes how the combined effects of ocean and wind currents move objects on the surface (called leeway).
