Robert P. Judd, Jr.
Mr. Judd leads diversification efforts across Metron for corporate Business Development, Corporate Relations, and Commercialization activities.
Mr. Judd joined Metron in May 2019 to lead diversification efforts for Business Development, Corporate Relations, and Commercialization efforts. Mr. Judd has over 34 years experience in development of a wide range of systems including Power, Torpedo Defense, Sonar, Imaging, Communications, Chemical / Biological / Explosive Detection, and Through Wall Radar Systems. He has held leadership positions across a full range of President and General Management, Engineering, Program Management, and Executive Management roles including systems engineering, hardware design, software design, product manufacturing, and customer support.
Prior to joining Metron, Mr. Judd was General Manager of Rantec Power Systems from 2017 – 2019 responsible for all day-to-day operations. He mentored and grew organizational knowledge of DoD contracting with top 5 primes.
Prior to joining Rantec, Mr. Judd held multiple positions with Ultra Electronics 3 Phoenix from 2009 – 2017. He focused on building and expanding programs with Navy customers and diversified the customer base to include Special Forces and commercial customers. He cultivated and extended key customer and industry partner relationships. Promoted to Vice President in February 2014 upon the acquisition of 3 Phoenix by Ultra Electronics, he subsequently assuming the General Manager role in September 2015 with full P&L responsibility. Major new programs in 2017 included submarine and surface ship RADAR program starts for navigation, surface search, and periscope detection. He spent significant time and effort successfully garnering Congressional support from all four Defense subcommittees for the Torpedo Defense Urgent Operational Need.
Mr. Judd built the US footprint of Camero Inc. from 2006-2008. He was responsible for global sales and marketing and all US operations for this Israeli company producing a through-wall radar system for Military and Hostage Rescue applications; start-up of US operations from clean sheet to product launch, signed contracts with initial delivery of evaluation systems, and infrastructure to support fielded systems. Customers included military, law enforcement, and fire and rescue communities. Working closely with the Israel-based CEO to conclude B Round financing in January 2007, he built revenues from zero to $1M+ revenues in 2008 while securing channel partnerships with industry leaders, DoD contracts, and DHS grants.
Following 9/11, Mr. Judd joined Smiths Detection in 2002 and had multiple positions through the end of 2005. Transportation Security was the first role, where he was responsible for managing post 9/11 growth from $70M to $160M. Customers included US DHS, UK BAA, the Israeli Security Agency, and transportation markets worldwide. Increased manufacturing capacity by over an order of magnitude from 30 per month to 30 per day. Subsequent to the acquisition of Heimann systems, his new responsibilities spanned US Defense, Intelligence, and Postal customers. Products included design and production of bio-detection systems to US DoD and USPS customers and chemical agent detectors to US DoD, First Responders, and classified customers. Organic growth achieved was 60% CAGR. Sponsored and integrated two chem/bio detection technology acquisitions.
Mr. Judd began his career at AT&T Federal Systems, Lucent Technologies (via spinoff), and General Dynamics (via acquisition), 1986 – 2002. Multiple roles included director responsible for C4I network and decision support programs with emphasis on program pursuit and capture, growing a new business area.
